Uh oh, scientists just lost the battle against typhoid and fear return to early-era mortality rates

It’s common in third-world countries but may soon spread across the rest of the globe as scientists this week discovered the typhoid bacteria has become resistant to all forms of antibiotics.  Researchers are calling the epidemic an “international clarion call” for prevention efforts. One doctor pointed out, “when systems don’t outpace the pathogen, we anticipate a return to the pre-antibiotic era when mortality rates soared”. Before antibiotics, about  1 in 4 faced certain death. For now, scientists believe that azithromycin remains slightly effective but “one more genetic mutation would make it untreatable”. Typhoid fever, caused by the Salmonella Typhi bacteria, is an acute illness transmitted by contaminated food or water. It causes high fevers (i.e. typhoid fever), headaches, generalized pain, lethargy, diarrhea, and vomiting. In third-world countries, about

Rash of Slender Man sightings besiege British homes – multiple reports from Cannock spark new investigation

Four separate sightings of Slender Man, the tall, stick-like specter said to visit people’s homes in the dead of night, have been reported in Britain’s Cannock area sparking an investigation of the spooky sightings. Paranormal investigator and British author Lee Brickley told reporters: “To get so many sightings at roughly the same time is unusual.” Three of the four Slender Man sightings took place inside the person’s home, the first of which was a Slender Man visit to the home of Pye Green around 2:00 AM on December 14, 2014. Green awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of a scratching noise inside her bedroom. As she rose from bed to investigate, she saw a “sphere-shaped shadow” near her wardrobe. As she swung her

Around the same time, reports of a similar strange noise began arriving from France, Denmark, Belgium, Australia and the eastern United States leading many to suspect the booming noise was the sound of a “pulse detonation engine”, the power source behind the United States’ top-secret Aurora aircraft project. Days after the event, there was still no official explanation for the mysterious noises. Brits begin reporting odd series of “booms” At around 10:00 PM local time, hundreds of Twitter users from Aberdeen to Devon in the United Kingdom began reporting “explosions” which

Ghost of the Langsmeade House Nanny captured in photograph during ghost hunting expedition

Chelle Morris was on a ghost-hunting expedition with the paranormal research group, Swindon Ghosthunters, at the haunted Langsmeade House in Oxford when she snapped the eerie picture above. Morris says she believes the picture captured the renowned ghost of the Langsmeade House Nanny peering from a second story window. At the time the picture was taken, the Langsmeade House was said to be empty.  Legend says the ghost is the remnant of a nanny who was riddled with guilt over a child who died in her care after falling out of a tree on the property.  According to Morris (edited for clarity): “We were investigating the grounds and heading towards the house.  I looked up and there were flashing lights on the second floor...  I decided to take

Mysterious spirits in Cheshire, UK – ghostly apparition appears on staircase, looks around, then disappears

UK paranormal investigators released eerie video this week of a ghostly apparition that they say they captured on video on June 28, 2014. In the video, the ghostly figure appears on a staircase inside the 16th century Stanley Place in the city of Chester in Cheshire, England. The video was captured by Sefton Paranormal Investigations who described the mysterious figure as a "solid person with a visible nose, mouth and hair, which looks first at the camera and then up the stairs". Sefton Paranormal cofounder Aaron Robinette explained the scenario to reporters: “In the video, I’m sat on a chair and Joe is sat on the staircase, and we’re calling out to spirits. Nothing happened, but it was only when watching the video back that I saw it.

Strange four-legged humanoid-like creature caught on CCTV crossing UK highway

In 2007, highway surveillance video from the United Kingdom captured what appears to be a strange humanoid-like creature sprinting across a four-lane highway.  At full-speed, the video appears to be of an animal crossing the highway at a pretty fast clip but still-frames from the video call that identification into question. Still frame photos show what appears to be a human head, body, and legs on a bizarre humanoid running on all fours. Proposals that the video was a fake were disproved by paranormal investigators. "We checked with local authorities who oversee the CCTVs in this area and this is not faked. They say it is genuine footage. This creature was filmed on CCTV running across a motorway in the UK." When the video first surfaced, explanations ranged

A report was released yesterday revealing that a commercial passenger aircraft carrying up to 200 people came with 300 feet of colliding with an unidentified object over Glasgow Airport in the United Kingdom on December 2, 2012.  The Airbus A320 airplane was making its final approach to Glasgow Airport when an object suddenly, and unexpectedly, passed about 300ft underneath it.  The A320 was descending into Glasgow in clear conditions with the sun behind the aircraft, when both the plane’s pilots saw the object around 100 yards away.  The pilot of the aircraft said the risk of collision with the UFO, which did not show up on his radar, had been "high". “We seemed to only miss it by a couple of hundred feet, it went directly

UK girl has been hiccupping every two seconds for the past three months – doctors are baffled

In January 2013, 13-years-old Emily Marsh, from the United Kingdom, was on her way to math class when she began to hiccup.  At first it was funny but now, three months later, not so much.  Emily hiccups every 2 seconds and has been hiccuping continuously, even while she sleeps, for over three months.  The physical action is so exhausting, she has to take afternoons off from school to rest.  She has undergone a series of tests, including an ultrasound scan, chest X-ray, endoscopy and MRI scan, but doctors have so far been unable to cure her condition.  She has tried sucking on sweets, a spoonful of vinegar, osteopathy, hypnosis, sneezing, gargling, and other old-wives tales but to date, she is still hiccuping. Emily explained to the Telegraph: "I've tried drinking backwards,
