Human trafficking – one of the world’s fastest-growing crimes

Human Trafficking It's been over 140 years since the United States abolished slavery.  Prior to that, human beings were captured, often from foreign countries, and forcibly brought to the Sates where they would be used as a cheap source of labor.  Often the slaves were abused – both physically, sexually, and emotionally.  As civilization matured, the people began to recognize the atrocity of the practice and slowly, over time, slavery was deemed illegal in country after country.  Modern readers recognize enslaving someone against their will as shocking, appalling, and nearly beyond belief.  What many fail to recognize however, is that the practice of slavery never truly ended. "Mary" “Mary” was a newly married woman with a handsome husband and beautiful baby boy. Shortly after their marriage, her entire

Mademoiselle Blanche Monnier – the girl who who was locked in a dungeon for 25 years

Mademoiselle Blanche Monnier The disturbing picture above is not a still shot from a horror movie, but rather is a hospital-room photo of Blanche Monnier, a French girl who was kept captive for 25 years in a padlocked, shuttered room where she was forced to live amidst pests, rats, human excrement, and filth.  Her discovery occurred on May 23, 1901 after the Paris Attorney General received an anonymous letter indicating a woman was being held captive in a home located on "21 rue de la Visitation" street in a wealthy neighborhood of Poiters, France. The anonymous letter read in part: "Monsieur Attorney General: I have the honor to inform you of an exceptionally serious occurrence. I speak of a spinster who is locked up in Madame Monnier's house,

The Kidnappings On May 6, 2013, three women were found alive in a two-story home at 2207 Seymore Ave. in a Cleveland, Ohio neighborhood.  The women had mysteriously vanished nearly a decade earlier.  Amanda Berry was last seen after finishing her shift at a Burger King in Cleveland on April 21, 2003.
