Westerners can’t comprehend the logic of suicide bombers. It’s not that Westerners won’t give their life in service of their country (many have) but the act of becoming a human bomb just seems, well, dumb. Today ISIS released footage of a teenage suicide bomber that from all appearances, they are very proud of. If you’re a Westerner, don’t think you’ll gain any more understanding after viewing the pictorial sequence of events – it’s not the brave march into battle you would expect. In the photos below, you’ll see a teenager’s jihadi buddies urge him on, patting him on the back and filming wildly with their cellphones. Then the poor kid breaks down and weeps and cries like, well, a little kid. Then he is no more.
The reluctant teenager below conducted the attack on a Syrian village using an armored car packed with explosives. We’re not sure how he drew the short straw, but Uzbek national Jafar al-Tayyar was chosen to drive the vehicle into the villages of Fua and Kafriyeh which were already under attack by Jihadi rebels.
As he prepares to leave, his jihadi buddies all gather around and wish him good luck.
This guy looks relieved that he wasn’t chosen for the mission.
A line of men wait to tell him goodbye (talk about peer pressure).
I mean, how could you say “no” to their exuberance?
Some Jihadis film with their cellphones, presumably to show the Internet how effective their combat maneuver is.
This guy writes a series of words on the suicide bomber’s chest. I’m guessing something along the lines of, “I’m too young to truly understand any of this”.
At first the kid is all smiles and flashes the “We’re number 1!” finger.
But then it seems to hit the kid – he realizes that the worst thing about being a suicide bomber – is that you die.
He breaks down and begins openly crying while his suicide brothers insist he go on.
Finally he seems to resolve that none of his buddies are going to feel sorry for him and he’s just going to have to tough this one out.
Off Tayyar goes in the tank-thingy packed with explosives.
Then moments later, he is no more.
The Jihadis flew a remote control plane and filmed the whole thing from the air. See that little flash of flame off in the distance? That’s Tayyar’s moment of glory.
Note sure what they put in that tank-thingy but the explosion was fairly big. Fertilizer maybe?
See that big hole below? The one right in between all those houses that are still standing? That’s where the bomb went off.
During the time of the attack, reports circulated in the area claiming a group of US-trained rebels had defected to the other side, probably weeping and crying while they handed over their weapons to the enemy.
Again, us Westerners just don’t get it…
