Stunned lodger in Australia watches in horror as huge huntsman spider eats a possum.

If you plan a visit to Australia, you should be aware that they have larger than normal spiders - like huge as in the size of a small dog. A weary traveler in Tasmania, Australia was unaware of their infamous huntsman spider and its gargantuan size until he found one clinging to the ceiling of his room - eating a possum. The spine-chilling photos were taken by Justine Latton during a stay-over at Mount Field National Park and quickly went viral. Huntsman spiders, also known as giant crab spiders or wood spiders, can have a leg span up to 13-inches. They can be found in Australia, Asia, and Africa. They have been accidentally introduced into parts of the United States too. They normally eat insects, small reptiles,

The Westall School UFO – Hundreds of students and teachers witness disc-shaped UFO above school in Australia (1966)

In 1966, Australia saw its largest mass UFO sighting in history. For over 20 minutes, more than 300 students, teachers, and others watched as a silver disc-shaped object flew above the school, landed behind it, then took off and sped away. Fifty years later, witnesses to the event still have no explanation for what they saw. April 6, 1966 – the Westall High School UFO On April 6, 1966 at 11:00 AM in a Melbourne, Victoria, Australia suburb known as Clayton South, a class of students and a teacher at Westall High School (now Westall Secondary College) had just completed an outdoor physical education class. It was a sunny, breezy autumn day. As the students filed toward the building, a student noticed an object in the sky.

Collection of historic vintage UFO photos (before we had Photoshop)

During the Golden Age of UFO sightings, the time between 1940 and 1970, thousands of UFO reports were submitted to officials, many of which were held for decades before being released to the public.  Included in these reports are many notable photographs purported to depict UFO's, or flying saucers as they were known at the time.  Below is a collection of the most popular historic UFO photographs from as early as 1870. UFO over Bulawayo, Southern Rhodesia. December 29, 1953     This is widely believed to be a photo of the infamous UFO over Westall Scondary College in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, witnessed by more than 200 students and teachers as it descended into an open, grassy field. The only official explanation to date is "experimental craft". 1966   UFO in

“Hairy Panic” tumbleweeds invade Australian city covering cars and homes with nuisance dead plant

Global warming and climate change have produced unusually dry conditions in Australia this past year, prompting a bizarre invasion of a species worthy of nightmares – well at least for the residents of southeastern Australia who say the “hairy panic” tumbleweeds are burying their cars, covering doorways, and piling up on roofs of houses. The weeds, officially known as Panicum effusum, have invaded Wangaratta, an inland town in the Australian state of Victoria. Residents are blaming the outbreak on a single farmer whom they said failed to plant one of his fields this season allowing the weed to run rampant. One resident wrote on Facebook: “Hope the person who owns the out of control paddocks in our area gets notified to do something because this is a joke

Freakish, prehistoric-looking sea creature washes up on shores of Australian lake

Australia is the land of many strange animals but this one has locals stumped.  Ethan Tipper took the photograph above of a bizarre sea creature that washed up on the shores of an Australian lake this week. The prehistoric-looking sea creature appears to be about 10 feet long with an eel-like (sea serpent) body, long snout, and hundreds of sharp teeth. The creature is possibly some sort of eel (pike eel has been suggested) but if so, it’s an unusually large one. The creature was found on February 15, 2016 at the Swansea Boat Ramp on Lake Macquarie (near the lake’s mouth) in Newcastle, New South Wales.  Lake Macquarie (also known as Awaba) is Australia's largest coastal salt water lagoon measuring over 40 square miles. Ultra-fast UFO caught on dashcam video by award-winning astro-photographers in Darwin, Australia

Two award-winning astro-photographers report capturing video of an ultra-fast Fastwalker UFO screaming across the sky in Darwin, Australia. The couple, Paul and Sylvia Mayo, have 30-years’ worth of astrophotography under their belts and say they are “baffled by the sight” which took place on June 12, 2015 at 1:00 AM as they pulled into a gas station in Darwin, the capital of city of Australia's Northern Territory. The couple say at first they thought nothing of the object streaking across the sky until they realized the unbelievably high rate of speed it was travelling. The couple returned home and posted the video on YouTube with the comment: “We were leaving the Caltex service station at Berrimah in Darwin NT when our dash-cam captured a super-fast object moving

Bizarre cloud formation in Australia prompts citizens to wonder: Has the end drawn near?

It’s a rare weather phenomena called a “fallstreak hole” that occurs when the water temperature inside a cloud drops to freezing but the water vapor itself cannot freeze because there are not enough “ice nucleation particles” – and man, does it look freaky. Last month citizens of Wonthaggi, Australia (100 miles southeast of Melbourne) were treated to the spectacular sight of a fallstreak hole (also called a fallstreak cloud or punch hole cloud) which had many worried about what was occurring in the skies above them. The strange cloud formation, which looks like an alien ship or portal to another dimension, occurred on November 5, 2014 above the seaside town of Wonthaggi. Panicked residents (thankfully) snapped photos and called local radio stations seeking an explanation for the

Series of mysterious loud booms and explosions reported throughout UK, Belgium, France, Denmark, Australia, and eastern USA

Twitter lit up on Saturday (November 29, 2014) as hundreds of witnesses reported hearing a sequence of mysterious and inexplicable loud bangs and booms that continued echoing throughout the United Kingdom for up to 30 minutes. Around the same time, reports of a similar strange noise began arriving from France, Denmark, Belgium, Australia and the eastern United States leading many to suspect the booming noise was the sound of a “pulse detonation engine”, the power source behind the United States’ top-secret Aurora aircraft project. Days after the event, there was still no official explanation for the mysterious noises. Brits begin reporting odd series of “booms” At around 10:00 PM local time, hundreds of Twitter users from Aberdeen to Devon in the United Kingdom began reporting “explosions” which

As if not creepy enough, researchers find two-headed stingray fetus floating in aquarium water

Australian researcher Leonardo Guida was cleaning an aquarium in April when he saw several baby rays floating in the water.  Noting that the mother stingrays had just given birth, he began recording the baby rays when he saw an "oddly shaped, pale object floating in the water".  That odd object turned out to be a stillborn baby ray fetus - with two heads!  Two-headed rays (and sharks) are a rare birth defect that arises when the neural tube in a single fertilized egg is duplicated.  There has been an increase in shark and ray birth defects over the past few years but nobody is quite sure what is causing the anomalies. According to Scientific American: "The bay has recently undergone extensive dredging to enlarge shipping channels, resuspending

A lake full of Pepto Bismal? Australia’s Lake Hillier – a bubble-gum pink wonder that scientists have yet to unravel

From above, Lake Hillier, located on the edge of Recherche Archipelago’s largest island in Australia, looks to be filled with Pepto Bismal.  It’s bubble-gum pink waters are so unusual, airlines report passengers getting up from their seats and crowding around windows to get a peek of the stunningly beautiful natural wonder.  Scientists are unsure why its waters retain their rose pink color but believe it may be from a dye created by the organisms living in the lake – Dunaliella salina and Halobacteria.  Another theory proposes that the pink color might be  attributed to the presence of red halophilic bacteria in the salt crusts.  What they do know is that the bright pink waters are no illusion.  The water retains its pink hue when taken

UFO reports from Queensland, Australia appear to be beginning of “wave” of unexplained sightings

UFO reports from Queensland, Australia, particularly in the Bundaberg Region, are beginning to catch the eye of ufologists around the world.  UFO reports from Bundaberg, where unlike in the United States and Europe, the Austrian culture and attitude tend to keep residents quiet about their sightings, are beginning to come forth – in waves and clusters of sightings.  News Mail released several interesting accounts yesterday. On December 14, 2012, “Jason” (witness will only reveal his first name) was in his backyard talking on the phone with a friend when he saw a bright light in the sky accelerate upward on a 45 degree angle. "It was a very clear night and I could see all the stars out, I was looking out in the north east of
