Dead man orders Burger King double-bacon cheeseburger for funeral

Workers at a Burger King in Leeds, England were caught off guard this week when a hearse pulled into the restaurant’s drive-thru. The ordered a double-bacon cheeseburger, then opened the back door of the hearse and placed the meal on top of the casket. The driver told restaurant mangers 71-year-old Leonard Durkin gave his son “one last wish” to carry out when he died. Durkin requested that at his funeral, his favorite meal, a Burger King double-bacon cheeseburger, be placed on top of his coffin.

Durkin’s son, Peter Durkin, told reporters the elderly jokester often stopped at the Burger King after visiting his wife’s grave (which was located nearby). He always ordered a double-bacon cheeseburger.

“Dad had a brilliant sense of humor and before he died he said he wanted to do this. He’ll be having a good laugh about this from up there. We would always go and get something to eat after visiting the cemetery where my mom is. Every time we went to Burger King he’d get a double bacon cheeseburger, so that was the one we got for him on the day of his funeral.”

Peter says workers might not have appreciated the joke.

“We told the person serving us that the burger was for the man in the back, but I think the joke was a bit lost on them.”

Peter says that wasn’t the end of his father’s after-death pranks. As per his request, his body was cremated while Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” played in the background.
