News of an incredible poltergeist case in Scotland broke this week after Catherine Shreenan of Rutherglen (South Lanarkshire, Scotland) admitted a series of hauntings in her home have caused her family much grief. Shreenan refuses to discuss the case with reporters and told them:

“We don’t want to be in the papers, we don’t want people coming to our house. I’m not interested in talking to newspapers. You can’t imagine the stress we have been under.”

Scottish police, who witnessed the activity, say they are baffled by what they saw.

Catherine Shreenan reports disturbing incidents are occurring in her home

Home of Rutherglen poltergeist on Stonelaw Road51-year-old Catherine Shreenan and her teenage son called police twice last week after a series of “disturbing incidents” in their ground-floor home on Stonelaw Road. The first call was made on August 8. Police were dispatched to the home, expecting to find a mental health issue. Instead, they say the family appeared to be “extremely distressed” and told them that they had been experiencing violent and unexplained circumstances inside the home. A second call to the police was made the next day. When officers arrived at the home, they were stunned by what they observed.

Officers say they heard loud booms and knocks and witnessed appliance doors opening and closing, lights flickering off and on, pictures falling from the walls, and kitchen utensils and items of clothing flying inexplicably about the room. They recall table lamps turning off, throwing the home into total darkness, then flickering back to life, lampshades wrapped around the lamp, upside down.

One source says he stepped outside the home to call superior officers, noting the Shreenan’s Chihuahua playing in a garden behind the home. The officer says he turned around briefly, then turned back to find the pet sitting silently atop a 8-foot-tall hedge.

A police source confirmed:

“These were incidents that were witnessed by our own officers. Incidents that are not easily explained. Officers with more than 20 years’ service are saying they’ve never seen anything like this. It really is something that down-to-earth police officers are having trouble getting their heads round.”

Police Scotland unsure how to proceed

With no reasonable explanation for what they saw, officers called the Catholic Church who sent a priest to “bless the home”.

Police Scotland explained:

“The main concern is with the family’s welfare and well-being but with no crime committed and no culprit we are at a loss how to proceed with it. Inquiries are ongoing but it’s difficult to know where to go with it. As no crime has been established, what else can we do but deal with any reports of disturbances.”

The Shreenan’s have fled the home and are now staying with relatives who live just a few miles away. Police are looking into the background of the family and researching the history of the property to see if there have been previous reports of similar incidents at the home.
